We’re also a resource to help our clients find any additional services they may need (e.g., meal delivery, transportation, legal assistance and more). Ask about how our nurse care managers and licensed social workers can help you find the additional services you need. In Minnesota there are so many wonderful service providers. Many families choose to research their options using MinnesotaHelp.Info, a resource developed by the Minnesota Board of Aging and the Department of Human Services.

 

PRICING CHANGES
December 2017

As a premier Twin Cities agency, we don’t change our prices very often. Some of our current prices have remained the same for years. Our goal is to always remain competitive within the industry. However, after a close analysis, we now feel that we must make a few price increases — specifically to our hourly Home Health Aide and Companion services, and our Sunrise/Sunset Package. Please call us or contact one of our Community Liaisons or members of our Leadership Team if you have questions.

 

Flu Prevention

Cold and fly season is upon us. We always encourage our clients to take needed precautions, including getting vaccinated and washing their hands often. We also try to have a supply of Legacy-branded pocket spray hand sanitizer available each year.

We enjoy attending many of the terrific Fall Conferences. It’s always nice to share ideas with our many industry colleagues. Some events we’ll be attending this year include, the MNHSWA Fall Conference from October 4-6 in Hinckley, the MSSA Metro District Fall Conference on Thursday, October 5 in St. Paul, and the Fall Aging Conference (hosted by the St. Paul and Minneapolis Senior Workers’ Associations) on Thursday, October 26 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center.

Dementia Training
May 2017

Janelle Johnson, LSW, JD of JMJ Consulting and Advocacy led a 2-hour dementia care training for Legacy Home Care’s team members including clinicians and home health aides. The training session covered various techniques and tips about caring for seniors with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Allina Health Hospice Foundation’s 2017 Dragonfly Gala was a success – raising roughly $43,000 to support Allina Health Hospice’s patients who can’t afford room and board. This month, Legacy Home Care welcomed Dr. John Brose, PhD, LP, LMFT, LADC of Associated Clinic of Psychology to speak with 80 area social workers and nurses over a delicious lunch from Panera Bread.Participants were invited to share real life challenges and hear the expert opinions of one of the Twin Cities’ foremost Geraitric Psychologists. Live-In Services
August 2016

Legacy Home Care is celebrating over 5 years of servicing the Twin Cities Metro Area. We recently received some  wonderful feedback from a son about the live-in care Legacy Home Care provided to his mom: “I realize the challenge and flexibility that’s required to provide care 24/7 and you all did it kindly, attentively, patiently, and with loving care. CEU On Wheels
August 2016

Legacy Home Care was proud to sponsor several “CEU on Wheels” this month! Social Workers and Nurses from St. Joseph’s Hospital listened to “Health Brain, Healthy Mind: Minimizing the Risk for Alzheimer’s Disease” on their way to tour Golden Living Center – Lake Ridge, a local skilled nursing community in Roseville, MN. We also took a group of Social Workers and Nurses from Unity Hospital to tour St. Anthony Care Center, hearing about “Ethical Decisions in Dementia” along the way. Thank you to everyone who came with us and a special thank you to Dr. Clemencia Rasquinha, MD, CMD, and Steven Atkinson, PA-C, MS, from Twin Cities Physicians for speaking on such pertinent topics at these events.

 

Hospice Training

People on hospice bring a unique set of needs to their care. This past week, our caregivers have undergone additional training specifically focused on those on hospice to ensure that we continue to provide care that offers dignity, respect, and compassion.  Thank you to St. Croix Hospice for being with us for this education.

 

Specialized Dementia Training

We offer our caregivers and clinicians regularly scheduled dementia training sessions to give them the tools they need to positively impact the lives of our clients and their family members. The training is provided by Janelle M. Johnson, of JMJ Consulting and Advocacy, who has a background in law and social work. We look forward to seeing our caregivers and clinicians at our next training on Monday, July 18!

TRAINING TO SERVE BENEFIT

We had a great time on May 7, 2015 at the Training to Serve Benefit, held at the Gale Mansion in Minneapolis. We enjoyed a night of participating in both a live and silent auction, eating a scrumptious dinner, and watching video testimonials from former and current clients. Training to Serve is a curriculum developed to assist senior service providers with training and resources to ensure LGBT people are able to achieve a full, quality life in later years.

HOSPICE TRAINING
September 2014

We are pleased to have Deb Lane with us on Wednesday, September 10th.
Deb is a community liaison with Our Lady of Peace Hospice and Home Care. She has been a hospice nurse for many years, having received her BSN at Bethel College in St. Paul. Deb’s passion is teaching people about hospice and helping them to make decisions about their future health care needs.

 

ALZHEIMER’S TRAINING
August 2014

We’re again pleased to have Janelle Johnson with us on Tuesday, August 19th.
Janelle is a Dementia Care Specialist who has been working in the field of Aging Services for many years. Her career has focused primarily on the care of those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. She has a law degree from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the College of St. Catherine, which, combined with her years of experience in this field, make her an outstanding advocate for advancing best practices in Alzheimer’s care. Janelle joins us as part of our efforts to provide ongoing training and education for our nurses and caregivers.

Each year the Star Tribune names Top Workplaces in Minnesota. This year, Legacy Home Care was named a Top 10 workplace for small companies. Results were based on a survey that asked employees to rate their workplace looking at six factors: connection, direction, execution, their work, their manager, and their pay/benefits. SPRING CONFERENCES

Spring has arrived, and that means it’s time for some terrific spring conferences.

We had a great time on April 8th at the St. Paul Area Senior Workers Association annual conference. The DS Event Center was a lovely setting. We were a sponsor of this wonderful event.
